Figure 1. The Aztec or Mexican Marigold plant.

Marigold or plants belonging to the genus Tagetes. The plants are native to the Americas, growing naturally from the southwestern United States into South America, but some species have become naturalized around the world. In particular, Tagetes erecta, or otherwise known as the Aztec Marigold, Mexican Marigold, big Marigold, Cempazuchitl or Cempasuchil, is one of the most prolific species of flowering plant in the genus traditionally used for medicinal purposes. Tagetes erecta is native to Mexico and can be found growing wild in the states of Michoacan, Puebla, Veracruz, and others.

For nutritional values, refer to the Codex entry for Tagetes erecta.
