                                                             globe remains unacceptably high.
                                                             Today, it sits at the forefront of global
                                                             health challenges.


                                                             According to the Global Nutrition  Report 2018 (GNR18),
                                                             malnutrition is responsible for more ill health than any other
                                                             cause, in that all forms of malnutrition lead to various forms
                                                             of ill health and in many instances, higher levels of mortality.

                                                             There is a common misnomer that malnutrition refers to the
                                                             lack of food or nutrition caused by “not having enough to
                                                             eat”, but in fact malnutrition includes causes  from “not
                                                             eating enough of the right things” and “eating too much of
                                                             the wrong things”. GNR18 categorizes malnutrition into six
                                                             distinct categories: (1) undernutrition; (2) stunting (children
                                                             under-5);  (3) wasting (children under-5); (4) micronutrient
                                                             deficiencies; (5) moderate and severe underweight (adults);
                                                             and (6) overweight and obese (adults).

                                                             While poor  health does not necessarily result  from  poor
                                                             nutrition, poor nutrition necessarily results in poor health.
                                                             Furthermore, malnutrition is not isolated to certain
                                                             geographies; it is a universal challenge that escapes no
                                                             country, not least Malaysia.
