Humulus lupulus is the scientific name for the Hops plant. Humulus lupulus is a member of the Cannabaceae family of flowering plants. Humulus lupulus has separate female and male plants, and only female plants are used for commercial production. It is a vigorous, climbing, herbaceous perennial plant, and usually grown in a field (i.e. hopfields). Today, Humulus lupulus is most widely cultivated in United States, Germany, China, and rest of Europe.
