Although overall growth is still lagging behind the global
market, Malaysia’s market development is similar with
respect to market dynamics between vitamin and mineral
(VMS) and non-vitamin and mineral (non-VMS) segments.
In 2018, the global market value for VMS and non-VMS were
estimated at about USD52 billion and USDnnn billion, with
market shares of nn% and nn% respectively. The global non-
VMS market is projected to grow at a CAGR of n.n% to reach
USDnnn billion by 2020 (or nn% of the total market).
Conversely, the global VMS market is projected to grow at a
CAGR of just n.n% to reach USDnn billion in the same time
period (or nn% of the total market).
The larger (and faster growing) market for non-VMS products
at the global level is driven by multiple factors, including
consumer’s increasing sophistication, demand for high
efficacy (e.g. higher dosages, superior ingredients, targeted
applications, etc.), and increasingly diverse and fast-paced
lifestyle, all of which are relevant to and observed in the
Malaysian market.
