which in most cases can be solved via
dietary supplementation.
Nevertheless, nutritional deficiencies among Malaysian
women persist. Research has observed that anaemia among
Malaysian women was found to be n to n times more
prevalent than women in Denmark, for example. Among
Malaysian women:
• nn% of those age 15-49 are afflicted with anaemia.
• nn%-nn% of pregnant women have low iron status,
while nn% of pregnant women are afflicted with
anaemia.
National statistics also point to similar findings, in that nn%
to nn% of anaemia cases among pregnant women are caused
by iron deficiency (and a small percentage through folate
and B12 vitamins deficiency).
As the causes of anaemia and solutions are known, efforts
should focus on better implementation, such as early iron
and vitamin supplement intakes and/or early diagnosis of
the disease.
