Survey 2015. Malaysians require medicinal
intervention, supported by nutritional
and lifestyle solutions.
Observations from national health statistics are in line with
the findings in Global Nutrition Report 2018. Top NCDs
among Malaysians include the following:
• Overweight and obese. Affecting approximately n in
every 2 Malaysians.
• Diabetes. Affecting approximately n in every 5
Malaysians.
• Hypertension. Affecting approximately n in every 3
Malaysians.
• Hypercholesterolemia. Affecting approximately n in
every 2 Malaysians.
• Anaemia. Affecting approximately n in every 4
Malaysians. In particular, n in 5 Malaysian women
suffer from anaemia.
The rise in NCDs is inextricably linked to the way people live
the modern lifestyle, and Malaysians may not be addressing
them seriously enough. Prescriptive solutions are necessary
and can be costly depending on the severity of the ailment.
Preventive solutions can help (up to a certain point) but may
not be the most comfortable or intuitive action to take.
